Description
Local Sunshine Coast adventurer-turned-inventor Raphael McGowan was inspired to create a business which makes a profit while making a positive difference in the world with his first product 'bakslap' hitting the market late last year.
bakslap is a sunscreen & lotion applicator helping reach hard to reach places on the body like the back, without getting messy hands. And it has all been developed in Mooloolaba and other parts of the Sunshine Coast. The brand's latest product is a detachable sunsafe flap hat now available.
“Our focus within our local community is raising awareness on how to enjoy sunshine responsibly and making sure visitors to the region have a solution to make sun protection easier. Queensland has the highest rate of melanoma in the world with the Sunshine Coast the major hot spot.
“Originally, bakslap was developed to raise awareness and provide a solution from the risks associated with too much sun exposure. However, more and more customers are also purchasing bakslap to help apply beauty, medical and general lotions. It’s versatile and multipurpose and we're glad it can provide extra help to people."
Bakslap Mission
Raph was driven to start bakslap in 2017 and make a dent in sunburn prevention and sun safety awareness following the loss of his sister Tess to melanoma in 2011.
Bakslap gives $1 from each bakslap sold towards research and finding a cure at the world leading Melanoma Institute Australia.
